Sweetheart / Veterans Badges. In both World War 1 and World War 2 sweetheart badges were exceedingly popular. As the name suggests these were purchased by a service person’s loved ones as a sign of solidarity with both the Soldier/Airman/Navy rating. Often showing a unity emblem or some form of good luck charm.

Veteran badges often covered membership in a particular ex service organisation. In Germany in the 1920’s – 1930’s they also had political implications as well . e.g. “der Stalhelm” Old Comrades Association or Freikorps.
