The collection of world war two cap badges and insignia remains an affordable area of militaria collecting. By definition Regimental cap badges and shoulder insignia was produced in large numbers. The quality of badges does vary as the shortages in wartime and shipping blockades took their toll on supplies.

Many British Regimental Cap badges for the period are manufactured in good quality brass. Certainly this remained so at the beginning of the War in 1939 but as the war years continued poorer quality brass , locally overseas made badges appeared. Their composition and state after 75 years is often evident.
