Original 1980’s/90’s USSR Soviet Pilotka Army Side Hat
The Cold War was a period of geopolitical tension, which emerged out of WW2, between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies, the Western Bloc and the Eastern Bloc. The Cold War duration was 12 March 1947 until 26 December 1991.
USSR soldiers and veterans often used their Side Hat as a memento of their Service. This could include service in East Germany or in Afghanistan or other theatres of operations. Badges swopped generally at the end of mobilised Service.
At the end of December 1979, the Soviet Union sent thousands of troops into Afghanistan and immediately assumed complete military and political control of Kabul and most of the rest of the country.
Here is an excellent example of a USSR Pilotka. It is more an original veterans piece than a tourist souvenir item. The cap consists of many original unit badges for a Motorised Infantryman (on the front centre) surrounded by various trade and unit miniature badges.
To the rear from left to right are a USSR (CCCP) Soviet Artillery Badge, Centre a badge of an Army Construction Unit (Company size group. Finally, the right hand side badge is for Soviet Car Transportation Troops. Size stamped “56”
An interesting Cold War item!
